Known as the Islamic Centre, the mosque was opened on 11 November 1984 near the main jetty of Male' and holds about 5,000 worshippers. It has a large golden dome, a 41 m minaret, a conference hall and an Islamic library. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has been based in the building since 2008.
