Established in 2009 under the Maldivian Red Crescent Law (Law 7/2009), the organization operates as an auxiliary to public authorities in humanitarian efforts. It is the 187th member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The national society delivers programs in disaster risk management, emergency response, first aid training, and health and social wellbeing across the country.
