Established on 5 October 1980, the High Court of the Maldives hears appeals against verdicts from subordinate courts and tribunals across the country. It also holds first-instance jurisdiction over specified constitutional and electoral matters. The court is based at Theemuge in Malé and operates with a bench of 11 judges headed by a Chief Judge.
